AP Farmer Held in Shameerpet for Selling BT-3 Cotton Seeds

Hyderabad: Malkajgiri Special Operations Team (SOT) nabbed a person illegally transporting and selling banned BT-3 cotton seeds.
About 100 kg of cotton seeds were seized from the possession of farmer Dasari Srinivasa Rao (58), a native of Andhra Pradesh’s Chebrolu village. According to information, the police along with Agriculture Department officials caught him illegally possessing and trying to sell banned BT-3 cotton seeds near exit number seven of Shamirpet ORR.
According to the press release, during the investigation, the accused disclosed that he along with his partner Dasari Suri Babu had procured the seeds from Srinivas Rao at a low price with the intention of selling them to farmers and fertilizer shops in and around Hyderabad for higher profits.
Srinivas Rao of Madanapalli and his partner Dasari Suri Babu of Ravinuthala village in Prakasam district are absconding. Police said the use of such banned and fake cotton seeds could lead to soil pollution, crop failure and heavy financial losses to farmers.
