AP Introduces First-Ever Supplementary Exams For Paramedical Students

: In a first-of-its-kind reform aimed at safeguarding students’ academic and career prospects, the Andhra Pradesh health, medical and family welfare department has decided to conduct supplementary examinations for paramedical students for the first time in the state.

Until now, students enrolled in two-year paramedical diploma courses such as Diploma of Medical Laboratory Technician (DMLT), ECG Technician, Cardiology and other allied health programs and who failed the annual exams had to wait a full year before they could reappear with the next batch. This practice delayed their academic progress and negatively affected their employment opportunities.

As per the directions of Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, the department has introduced the supplementary examination system from the academic year 2025-26. According to the announcement that applications will be accepted until January 5, approximately 5 thousand students are expected to benefit.

According to the official statement issued by the Allied and Health Professions Council (Paramedical) Secretary, additional examinations will be held on 2, 3 and 4 February.

The decision forms part of wider reforms to streamline the exam calendar. Andhra Pradesh offers 16 paramedical courses in which around 20,000 students are admitted every year based on their Intermediate BiPC or MPC qualifications. In the past, annual exams scheduled to be held in July were often postponed to October-January, causing uncertainty and difficulties for students.

The department, which put an end to this practice, held regular exams in July last year, announced the results in October and organized the additional exam process accordingly.

Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav said the twin reforms – timely conduct of regular exams and introduction of additional tests – will significantly reduce academic delays, reduce student stress and improve employability opportunities in the healthcare sector.
