AP Police Conduct Mega Cordon Day Across State

Vijayawada: In a massive crackdown aimed at making Andhra Pradesh a ganja and drug-free state, Andhra Pradesh Police, in coordination with AP EAGLE (Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement) wing, launched a massive state-wide enforcement campaign titled “Operation Vajraprahar – Mega Cordon Day” on Saturday.

The operation was carried out under the directions of Harish Kumar Gupta and was supervised by Aake Ravi Krishna of AP EAGLE.

Cordoning and search operations were carried out at 94 points in 88 police units, with the participation of approximately 4,800 police officers and EAGLE personnel. Police checked 280 suspected NDPS users and searched 26 houses linked to narcotics cases.

Many seizures were made during the operation. In NTR area, Vijayawada police seized a 9mm pistol and five rounds of ammunition near the bus stand and detained a person. In Gudur, GRP police seized 9 kilos of marijuana from a train. Additional seizures included ganja, hemp seeds and illicit liquor in areas like Chittoor, Bapatla, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Eluru.

Police inspected 1,856 vehicles and seized 238 liquor bottles, 115 liters of illicit liquor and 1,300 liters of rags used in the production of illegal liquor.

Ravi Krishna said the police will continue its zero-tolerance policy against drug-related crimes and appealed to citizens to provide information through AP EAGLE helpline 1972.
