AP Revives Welfare Schemes For Construction Workers

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Labor Minister Vasamsetti Subhash on Wednesday announced revival of welfare schemes for construction workers; these include ‘20,000 marriage allowance,’ 20,000 birth allowance, ‘60,000 natural death allowance, and ‘20,000 funeral allowance.’

Addressing the Srama Sakthi and Best Management Awards program in Vijayawada, the minister said the coalition government was giving equal importance to workers and managements while focusing on worker welfare, industrial growth and employment generation in the state.

Subhash said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has given top priority to workers’ welfare, safety, healthcare and employment opportunities, believing that a strong workforce will strengthen the State.

The Minister called on industries to strictly enforce workplace safety measures, stating that workers almost put their lives in the hands of employers while on duty. He alleged that worker welfare was neglected during the previous regime and various welfare schemes for construction workers were discontinued.

Subhash said the government has attracted investments, created employment opportunities and is moving towards fulfilling its promise of creating 20 lakh jobs through the “Ease of Doing Business” and “Speed of Doing Business” policies.

He also said that “Worker Addas” have been set up across the state with facilities such as employment support, rest areas, meals, toilets and skills training.

The Minister added that Rs 250 crore will be spent on health screening programs for workers and modern ESI hospitals are being set up in Tirupati, Achyutapuram, Guntur, Kurnool and Visakhapatnam. Proposals have also been prepared for 30 new ESI dispensaries across the state.
