The Billilingra Straight: the Monaro Highway’s most famous stretch | The Canberra Times

Do you know? Second ConFest, a mass lifestyle gathering, was held in 1977 at Mt Oak, just west of the Billilingra Plain. It attracted more than 15,000 participants who wanted to explore alternative living, sustainability and personal development. If the name ConFest rings a bell, it’s because the first ConFest was held much closer to home, in Cotter. This launch event, initiated by former deputy prime minister Jim Cairns and his secretary Junie Morosi, was also called ‘Down to Earth’.
