Ariana Grande speaks out against body-shaming and beauty standards

Ariana Grande speaks for herself.

The singer and actress, whose appearance was a major controversy while promoting “Wicked: For Good,” took to Instagram to share a message to anyone who felt the need to comment on her appearance.

“I’ve been reposting this to everyone since last year as a loving reminder,” he wrote on his Instagram story on Saturday, along with a lengthy video clip of his interview with Cynthia Erivo last December.

In the clip, Grande talks about the beauty standards women face, saying, “I do this publicly, and I’ve actually been a specimen in a Petri dish since I was 16 or 17, so I’ve heard it all. I’ve heard every version of my problem, and then you fix it, and then it’s wrong for different reasons.”

He continued, “But it’s everything, even from the simplest thing like your appearance. You’re young and you hear all kinds of things.”

“It’s so hard to shield yourself from this noise,” Grande said, explaining that you don’t have to be a global superstar to experience and deal with this type of criticism.

“It doesn’t matter what level you live at, when you go to Thanksgiving dinner and someone’s grandma says, ‘Oh my God, you look thinner, what happened?’ Even if he says it is something disturbing. or ‘You look heavier, what happened?'” she said. “This is a disturbing and terrible thing, no matter where it happens, no matter what scale it happens.”

Grande has been pushing for the highly anticipated follow-up to last year’s “Wicked,” and her appearance on the red carpet has prompted countless comments about her weight.

Another believed that she looked “very skinny” before the first movie, “but she’s gotten a lot skinnier.”

Many fans argued that she was naturally petite, with one person writing: “Ariana has ALWAYS been this thin when she was her normal weight, stop buying into the propaganda you see online.”
