Armed police called after man stabbed near nursery in Birmingham

Armed police were called to the scene after a man was seriously injured after being stabbed during lunch in Birmingham on Tuesday.
A nearby nursery on Bridge Road in Alum Rock was put on lockdown after witnesses saw him stab another man in the street shortly after noon.
West Midlands Police said a 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing and is currently in police custody.
Chief detective James Munro said: “We believe this is a contained incident with a man in custody.
“We understand how distressing and worrying this incident is and we will have additional officers in the area to reassure the community.”
Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
“We are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to many people in the area. But we would urge anyone with any information to get in touch,” Mr Munro said.
