Armed police storm college campus in Reading after boy injured

Armed police officers are at a college in Reading after a child was injured in an attack.
Images on social media show a large police presence at Reading College on Kings Road in Berkshire on Thursday afternoon following the incident. Thames Valley Police said a child was injured and received medical treatment but did not provide any details about the child’s age or condition.
Searches for additional force are “ongoing” with armed officers at the scene and members of the public have been advised to avoid the area. According to local media reports, the police helicopter is circling the area while the searches continue.
In the automatic message sent to Reading College’s phone line, it was stated that the student’s life was not in danger. The message said: “We are currently dealing with an incident at Reading College where a student has suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
“Their families have been informed. The police have been informed and they are there.
Please be assured that all precautions are taken to ensure the safety of students.”
Eyewitnesses told local media that the university was “on lockdown”. It is believed to have since reopened with numerous police cars and officers still at the scene.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: “We are aware of an assault with injuries in Kings Road, Reading.
“A child has been injured and is receiving medical treatment. A search operation, supported by armed officers, continues and a visible police presence remains. “We advise the public to avoid the area at this time while officers work quickly to resolve the situation.
“We will provide an update when we are able to do so.”
