Army Chief Gen Dwivedi Says Operation Sindoor Ongoing

New Delhi: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi on Thursday extended New Year greetings to the nation and lauded India’s decisive action under Operation Sindoor, stating that the operation “continues even today”.
In a post by Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) – Indian Army on He emphasized the need for indigenous technologies and new ideas to make the army future-ready.
COAS said, “On behalf of the Indian Army, I heartily greet all citizens on the auspicious occasion of the New Year 2026. May this New Year bring happiness, health and prosperity to you and your families. The Indian Army ensures the security of the nation with utmost vigilance and determination.”
“Last year, a befitting response was given to the enemy’s treacherous designs with a stern and decisive action under Operation Sindoor, which continues even today. Besides vigilance at the borders, the army has played a vital role in national progress through rapid response to disasters within the country and nation-building efforts.”
In response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, in which 26 people lost their lives, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting Pakistan and terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir on May 7, 2025.
Emphasizing the modernization efforts of the army, General Dwivedi said that networking and data centricity have given new impetus to the transformation process.
“The Indian Army is undergoing a decade-long transformation in which partnership, self-reliance and innovation are the pillars of our strategic strength. Through the effective use of indigenous technologies, new ideas and continuous improvements, we are making the Army more capable and future-ready,” he said, adding that public trust and cooperation remain the Army’s greatest strength.
He also reiterated that the Indian Army will continue to contribute to security and nation building to achieve the goal of Developed India by 2047.
Following Operation Sindoor, the Chief of Defense Staff repeatedly emphasized the importance of cohesion and technology in modern warfare. Following the commissioning of INS Mahe in November 2025, General Dwivedi said the Army has launched several initiatives under a ten-year transformation framework and is conscious that future conflicts will be multi-domain and hybrid.
He noted at the time that the Indian Navy was playing a pivotal role both in the region and globally, while the Army’s efforts could play supplementary and complementary roles in both soft and hard diplomacy, which he described as “smart diplomacy”.
