Udupi Police Step Up Checks On Buses And Trucks

Udupi: Udupi police in a special enforcement operation on Wednesday checked more than 1,100 buses and booked 108 Challans for various violations.
Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said that this drive is part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety in the district.
Mines and mine-carrying vehicles were also examined. 1,352 such vehicles were checked during the day and 56 fines were issued for violations such as overloading and failure to install speed governors.
SP said, “These implementation works will be carried out in stages in order to implement the decisions taken by the committee chaired by the Deputy Commissioner regarding buses and trucks in the Road Traffic Authority and Road Safety Authority meetings.”
The Regional Transport Office (RTO) is carrying out parallel enforcement to ensure strict compliance with safety norms, he added.
