Asda introduces £13.10 rule from July | UK | News

Asda has announced hourly wages will rise to £13.10 from July 2026 as part of an above-inflation pay rise for its retail workforce. The supermarket confirmed that all 110,000 hourly workers across its stores and the Asda Express network will benefit from a 4% pay increase. The current hourly rate for shop staff outside the M25 is £12.60.

The increase will be implemented in two stages, rising to £12.71 from 1 April and reaching the new rate of £13.10 from 5 July. Hourly pay for employees working in shops within the M25 will rise from £13.82 to £13.93 from April and to £14.35 from 5 July.

Asda Chief People Officer James Goodman said: “Our store colleagues are at the heart of our business and the role they play in serving customers is central to our Growth Formula turnaround plan.

“I am happy that we can reward them with above-inflation wages and invest in this way.

“I would also like to thank them for their hard work and dedication to making Asda better every day.”

The latest increase represents a wage investment of £80 million for 2026 alone. The supermarket said total investment in retail payments since the business was acquired by TDR Capital and the Issa brothers in 2021 has reached £575 million.

Hourly wages increased by nearly 40% during this period, rising from £9.36 in 2021 to £13.10 in 2026.

Asda isn’t the only supermarket to increase wages recently. Last week Tesco joined many other major retailers in increasing hourly pay.

From March 29, hourly wages for store workers and staff in online fulfillment centers will rise by 5.1% to £13.28. For those within the M25, the hourly rate will rise to £14.55.

These increases follow a rise in the cost of living and the UK government’s announcement that the statutory National Living Wage will rise to £12.71 per hour in April 2026.
