Asha Bhosle Had a Heart of Gold, Says C Kalyan

Ace producer C. Kalyan was all praises for legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, describing her as a “woman with a heart of gold” and a consummate professional.

Recalling the experience of working with him for the Telugu film Chandamama, Kalyan said that his song “Naalo Voohalaku Naalo Voosulaku” was a chartbuster in 2007. “He had great respect for producers and was always warm and kind. I still remember how he greeted us with apples when we met him at a recording studio in Mumbai”.

Kalyan emphasized that young singers can learn valuable lessons from the experienced artist. “He never had demands or tantrums. He was disciplined and professional, qualities that few singers today lack,” he said.

Highlighting his contributions to Telugu cinema, he talked about some of his memorable songs like “Isaalakidee Ammammo Yemvedi” (Pavitra Bandham), “Vennela” (Iddaru), “Idhi Mouna Geetham” (Paalu Neellu) and “Bamchik Bamchik Bam” (Ardhangini), among others.

When asked why Asha Bhosle sings less in Tollywood, Kalyan revealed that logistical challenges play a role in it. “She is a gem of a singer, but recording required us to travel to Mumbai, which would have limited her opportunities here. Yet her talent is unmatched,” he added.

Another producer Prasanna Kumar pointed out that the Telugu film industry has long been rich in female acting talent, citing legends like P. Susheela, S. Janaki, Jikki, Vani Jairam and Bala Saraswati.

“This is one of the reasons why greats like Asha Bhosle sang selective songs in Telugu,” he said, adding, “She excelled in melodies, fast-paced songs, devotional songs and duets. She was among the best in the industry and has enthralled music lovers for decades.”
