Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma slams Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge for ‘insulting’ Assamese youth

Guwahati: Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge’s remarks questioning the talent pool in Assam and Gujarat drew a harsh reaction from Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Assam government is likely to file a case against Kharge.

Kharge on Sunday publicly questioned the logic behind semiconductor industries choosing Assam and Gujarat for their investments.

“Why are semiconductor industries going to Assam and Gujarat when they actually want to come to Bengaluru? All investments meant for Karnataka are being diverted by the Central government to go to Gujarat. What’s there in Gujarat? Is there talent there? What’s there in Assam? Is there talent there?”
Sarma told media persons on Monday that the remarks were “extremely insulting” and “degrading”.

He insulted the youth of Assam and the Congress is yet to condemn him. “We can file a case against him for saying that there are no competent youth in Assam. This is an insult to the youth of Assam.”

Assam BJP also hit back with a scathing post on social media, mocking Kharge’s “arrogant outburst”. “If ‘talent’ means licking the boss’s boot and grabbing biscuits for Rahul Gandhi’s pet, then thank God the people of Assam are talentless. Junior Kharge, do you have any real skill other than being born as the son of Senior Kharge? This father-son privilege has made insulting Assam a habit,” the BJP added. The Bhumi pujan (groundbreaking) of the Rs 27,000-crore semiconductor assembly and testing facility at Jagiroad in Assam’s Morigaon district was held last year. The facility is expected to become operational in 2025.
