Assembly Elections 2026 LIVE: PM Modi to address rallies, visit temples, take part in road show in West Bengal today

Dum Dum Uttar is at a crossroads, balanced between governance, grievance and a heavyweight TMC candidate
The urban Dum Dum Uttar Assembly constituency, located on the northern fringes of Kolkata and represented by senior Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, no longer appears to be the TMC stronghold it once was in the years following the party’s rise to power in 2011.
A visible shift in political currents has made the seat much more competitive, with the ruling party facing both structural and symbolic challenges.
At one level lies the steady rise of the BJP in the region over the last decade; This rise shook the traditional dominance of TMC. On the other hand, the opposition’s persistent attacks on deteriorating civil infrastructure (waterlogging, open drains, cratered roads, encroached water bodies and allegations of illegal construction involving some TMC leaders) have further increased public unrest.
