Assembly elections LIVE: Nominations to close for Tamil Nadu, Bengal phase-1 polls
On Sunday, April 5, 2026, the TMC accused the BJP of being involved in the unrest in West Bengal’s Malda district; Here, several judicial officials tasked with vetting undecided voters were recently gheraoed and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of peddling lies on women’s safety issues.
The ruling party’s comments came after the Chief Minister made the Malda gherao of judicial officers the focal point of the BJP’s campaign against alleged lawlessness in the state, claiming that it reflects the TMC’s “maha forest raj”.
He framed the assembly polls as a battle between the “bhay” (fear) allegedly spread by the ruling TMC and the “bharosa” (trust) of the BJP.
Rejecting TMC’s allegations, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said that the Prime Minister has sent a clear message that all the culprits will take action after the election results on May 4.
