Teenager, 16, killed in minibus crash near school is named

The name of a sixth-grade student killed in a crash involving a minibus carrying nine teenagers has been released as his school released a statement about the “unimaginable tragedy”.
Eleanor Hague, 16, known as Ellie, from Sherburn, Elmet, died in the incident involving a white Mercedes Sprinter van and a Hyundai i10 car near Tadcaster Grammar School at 12.30pm on Monday.
Ellie, a sixth-form student at the school, was a passenger in the minibus carrying nine teenagers aged between 16 and 18 from both her school and Sherburn High School.
Another young girl, who was seriously injured, was taken to the hospital because her condition was not considered life-threatening.
Other passengers and the man driving the van suffered minor injuries, police said.
Tadcaster Grammar School said in a statement on social media: “We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred yesterday, which resulted in the tragic loss of one of our students.
“Our deepest thoughts are with everyone affected by this unimaginable tragedy. As we come together, we are fully committed to providing unwavering support and empathy to every member of our school community.”
“Appropriate support will be available on site tomorrow with school open to all students and staff.”
Police said the driver of the Hyundai, a 40-year-old woman from Leeds, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He was released on conditional bail.
Police asked for witnesses and anyone with camera footage to contact police.
