NHAI to widen Dhaula Kuan road near Subroto Park

Good news for Delhi commuters; Traffic congestion at Dhaula Kuan may ease as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) undertakes the highway widening project near Subroto Park Air Force Station. According to the official announcement on Friday, the left side of the road leading to Gurugram will be widened from two lanes to four lanes.

“To improve traffic flow and improve connectivity between Dhaula Kuan and Delhi Airport, NHAI has undertaken to widen the carriageway on LHS (towards Gurugram) from 2 Lanes to 4 Lanes at Subroto Park Air Force Station, New Delhi,” NHAI said.

Why are road expansion works carried out?

Although it is a small section, construction work was started because it created great inconvenience for passengers and especially created an obstacle for those going to the airport, as transportation took 20-30 minutes during peak hours. The work will help remove a major bottleneck at the Parade Road underpass, a spot where the road was blocked as it turned from four lanes to two lanes due to a subway pillar narrowing the road along the edge of the carriageway.

To facilitate road widening projects, NHAI is working on relocating drains, constructing ring road and Air Force Station. The project is expected to be completed in approximately six months. “The project also includes construction of a new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) near Subroto Park Air Force Station at the beginning of the RTR flyover to improve safety and provide better connectivity to pedestrians,” NHAI added.

As part of the project, NHAI will also deploy traffic wardens, pulling winches and safety cones to handle moving traffic on the National Highway. Once completed, the expanded section is likely to relieve one of the city’s worst traffic congestion points and improve connectivity between Delhi and Gurugram.
