“It was a joke and it wasn’t meant to offend, it wasn’t meant to… you may not like it, and in all my years, in all my 50 years in business, I have never publicly apologized… This is hard for me, but this is for Kelly Ripa, who has been incredibly supportive in the past,” Mandel said in video shot on the beach.
“Not only was I a guest on his show, but I co-hosted with him and I’ve known him for years. The producer of the show, Micheal Gelman, is a very close friend of his. And when I go there, I just try to be fun and entertaining,” she explained.
“And sometimes, as a comedian, things don’t turn out the way you want them to. I don’t know how to say this, but I don’t want to just say I apologize to Kelly,” Mandel said. “But that’s the hardest part… you’re right. You’re absolutely right.”
She appeared to make light of the issue, ending the video with: “And I’m sorry I don’t see it that way, but after much thought and self-reflection, it is… I look great for my age, I really do. I look really, really great, and I need to come to terms with the fact that I look that good.”
“The one thing we can all agree on in these divisive times is that you look great for your age,” Gelman wrote in the comments section.
