Prince Harry, his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, were to make a family visit to England for the first time in four years. After announcing details of his visit to England ahead of the Invictus Games countdown on Friday, his team was told the family would not be provided with any police protection. A government spokesman said the protective security system was “rigorous and proportionate”.

“It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information about these arrangements as doing so could compromise their integrity and impact the safety of individuals,” the spokesman said. he added. Prince Harry and Meghan’s team reportedly told media outlets that the couple had already accepted an offer to stay at a royal mansion as guests of King Charles during the trip, although the location of the chosen royal residence has not been publicly disclosed.

TalkTV’s Breakfast presenter Mark Dolan addressed claims that Harry was deeply saddened by the decision and was currently assessing whether the visit could safely go ahead. The setback could be a fresh blow to the Duke, who has been vocal about reconciling with his father, King Charles.

Mark began: “Harry saying he can’t bring Meghan and the children to London because he was denied armed royal protection is appalling for the King.” Royal correspondent Rupert Bell addressed the Sussexes’ reaction and suggested it was devastating for the Royal Family.

The host asked: “What happened?”

Rupert surmised: “I’m assuming Meghan threw a fit because she didn’t get what she wanted.” The show guest then accused the Sussexes of trying to force the royal family’s hand in a major blow.

He continued: “But if this report is true, that is, if he decided at the last minute that they should come and everything seemed fine, it is not credible. It feels as if they are always trying to blackmail the Royal Family to get what they want.”

Rupert said the current protection was “completely acceptable” for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“Why does he think we’re going to expose him?” the royal expert questioned.

Rupert suggested that the royal family would be disappointed by Harry’s decision not to bring his family to England, and Harry issued a statement addressing the issue and his ongoing concerns.

In a statement released on Monday, a spokesman for the Duke of Sussex said: “Prince Harry’s schedule in the UK includes both public and private activities across the country. Safe accommodation is only one element of an effective preventive security plan because risk follows the person, not the place.”

They added that the issue was never about accommodation.

The spokesman continued: “The issue is whether appropriate and proportionate protective security was provided for the entirety of the visit. The independent Risk Management Board that RAVEC decided was necessary last November has still not been established. It is therefore difficult to see how the proportionality of existing arrangements can be reliably maintained without this independent assessment.”

“The Duke continues to explore every option available to ensure the visit proceeds safely and gives his children the opportunity to enjoy the UK.”

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, was planning to attend a series of public events in London and the Midlands with her husband.

The visit is timed to mark the start of the year-long countdown to the Invictus Games for injured military personnel, to be held in Birmingham next July.
