At least 15 die in horror crash in Bangladesh as workers were ‘travelling for Eid’ | World | News

At least 15 people were killed and 10 injured when a truck overturned on a major highway. The vehicle was reportedly carrying iron bars and extra passengers during Monday’s incident.
Local police chief Fuad Hossain said the accident occurred in the Soratoil area of central Bangladesh’s Tangail district after the driver lost control around 5 a.m. local time. The area is located approximately 52 miles northwest of the capital Dhaka.
He said the truck overturned, killing them on the spot.
The official said that most of the passengers were daily wage earners and were on their way to join their families for the festival.
Eyewitnesses told television channels that they rushed to the scene when they heard the noise and started rescuing the trapped passengers.
In the country where more than 170 million people live, traffic accidents cause thousands of deaths every year.
This follows a horrific crash in March when a full passenger bus plunged into a river, killing 18 people.
