Atlanta reporter detained by Ice ‘punished for his journalism’, rights groups say | US immigration

The first amendment groups, Mario Guevara, a Salvador journalist who was imprisoned in the South Georgia immigration detention center after being arrested in the South Georgia immigration detention center, said that he was “punished for journalism after discussing the“ King None Day ”protest.

“The charges were shot down, but ICE was detained by ICE, Jos said José Zamora, American Regional Director of America to protect journalists at a press conference at Georgia on Tuesday morning with Guevara’s lawyers and family. “Let’s be open, Mario is punished for journalism.

A police officer from the city of Doraville in Northern Dekalb district arrested Guevara on the way of pedestrian charges, disintegration and blocking on the road while making a protest in a heavy neighborhood of Guevara. Guevara was followed by a Spanish -speaking audience to cover the immigrant raids in Georgia, and when arrested, more than 1 million people were watching live flow on Facebook.

Guevara, born in El Salvador, has been in the US for more than 20 years. Attorney Giovanni Diaz said that despite the refusal of asylum petition in 2012, the deportation was closed administratively in appeal and that it was an application waiting for both work permit and green card.

Although the charges of the protest fell rapidly, the nearby Gwinnett County’s Şerif put a second unrelated misdemeanor traffic fees set shortly after Guevara’s arrest. The Gwinnett district lawyer later reduced these charges, but Gwinnett’s sheriff office is not before he seized his mobile phone by calling.

Guevara’s mobile phone was not returned and it is unclear whether the data is transferred from it, or whether the data is shared with federal agencies.

“Everyone says we haven’t seen an order in the system, Di Diaz said, explaining his office’s investigations into sheriff and other agencies. “So, it became one of the two things. Another agency that didn’t contact us took this – US lawyer [office]Ice, there’s someone else – or the phone was just stolen.

“I think in this case, considering the behavior of the government for the course. At least we do it to see if we got back the phone at least, but if they still don’t give the phone back, another reason to file a lawsuit in the Federal court.”

Guevara’s family was briefly kept in the general population in the Federal Prison in Atlanta, while another prisoner had to pay extortion after threatening him. Guevara is now kept alone to help protect it, but also limits its ability to report about the conditions in the Folkston Immigration Center, which will also become the largest ice detention center in the USA.

“We are wasting time we will never come back every day last day, Kat his daughter Katherine Guevara said. Orum I know that many people in the same situation understand all of them very well. I’m deeply disappointed from this country. This is not just a journalist. What kind of country is about what we want to be. If a government can punish a reporter to do his job, if he sends this message?
