ATP Finals: Carlos Alcaraz to face Jannik Sinner and partisan Italian crowd in Turin final

World number one Carlos Alcaraz joked he wouldn’t mind facing someone else after making his sixth final of the year against great rival and reigning ATP Finals champion Jannik Sinner.

Sunday’s match will be a fitting finale to the 2025 tour season, in which Alcaraz and Sinner have won a combined 13 titles, including four Grand Slams and four ATP 1,000 tournaments for the second consecutive season.

They won five of the finals among themselves, with the Italian Sinner winning at Wimbledon, the Spanish Alcaraz winning at the Rome Masters, Cincinnati, the US Open and, most memorably, with an epic victory of five sets in five and a half hours at Roland Garros.

Both players finished their respective semifinals in straight sets on Saturday. Alcaraz beat Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-2 6-4 to advance to his first Turin final, while Sinner confirmed his third consecutive appearance in the tour’s season-ending showpiece by beating Alex de Minaur 7-5 6-2.

Despite going 10-5 in head-to-head, including a 5-2 record in the finals, Alcaraz said he had to play “plan A” and overcome the partisan crowd to dethrone Sinner.

“It’s great to face Jannik. [But] I wouldn’t care if it was anyone else!” said Alcaraz.

“I’m trying to approach the match with more focus. I know that if I want to win the tournament, I have to play my plan A. We will both raise our level.

“The whole stadium will be supporting him and I need to be prepared for that. I hope there are at least three or four people cheering for me.”
