Authorities said they were investigating the incident as a “potential link to terrorism” after it was revealed that the man was wearing a sweatshirt saying “Property of Allah” and an undershirt depicting the Iranian flag. Officials added that a Quran was later removed from his vehicle.

Separately, Diagne attacked Trump and Netanyahu multiple times, at one point calling Trump a “shameless clown” and Netanyahu “evil.”

Some posts were direct responses to Trump supporters and right-wing influencers; one of them read: “You and your first lieutenants in Israel are fake Jews you know this, so melt whatever you want you ugly bitch—-.”

Last October he also said, “Shut up, you fucking Israel—. Move to Israel, you fucking bitch—-.”

Beyond religion and politics, misogynistic content was frequently shared on the account.

In November 2024, he said, “No one wants you, that’s why you’ve been single for 4 years, look, no one in their right mind is dating, what are you doing, you fat and ugly like a pig, women belong in the kitchen and the bedroom.”

Authorities are investigating whether Sunday’s shooting was influenced by recent U.S. and Israeli attacks against Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who reportedly died a day before Diagne opened fire in downtown Austin.

No official reason has been confirmed yet.
