UK town issues ‘anti-yob’ order as fears grow kids are plotting Halloween chaos | UK | News

A Dispersal Order has been issued for Darlington town center from Thursday night to Friday night, October 30. The anti-yob order was put in place after police said they were told there was “possible disturbance in the city centre”. This means that anyone authorities suspect of causing trouble will be banned from returning to the area. Those who choose to ignore it could also face arrest as the force warns they will “deal strongly with criminals”.

There will be an increased police presence on the streets around the clock as parents are urged to keep an eye on their children during the Halloween period. Inspector David Littlefair, of Darlington Neighborhood Policing Team, said: “We received reports of possible disturbance in the town center on Thursday night so we implemented a 24-hour dispersal order.

“Darlington town center should be a place that everyone can enjoy, not spoiled by a small number of individuals who encourage antisocial behaviour.

“I would like to remind parents that the safety of their children is their responsibility, as well as that of the police and other authorities.

“Make sure you know where your child is and what they are doing, as this may prevent the police from knocking on your door.

“Antisocial behavior is making the lives of those living and working in the area miserable and we will deal strongly with these criminals.

“Dispersal orders are just one way to combat criminals during the Halloween and Bonfire Night period.”

Councilor Jim Garner, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for stronger communities, told The Northern Echo: “Our community safety and civil enforcement officers work closely with the police, other partners and local communities to ensure Darlington is a safe place for everyone.

“We always advise parents to stay informed about where their children are and what they are doing and if anyone witnesses antisocial behavior please report it to the police or council.”

Dispersal orders were also issued in other towns over the Halloween period, including Clifton and an area of Surrey.

Nottinghamshire Police said the order would be in force for 48 hours from 4pm on Thursday, and Surrey Police said the order covers the entire borough of Spelthorne and is in force from 12pm on Thursday until 12pm on Saturday.
