The federal government’s national lung cancer screening program has completed its first 12 months with data showing nearly 100,000 high-risk Australians have accessed the free service and more than 230 cases of primary lung cancer have been detected.
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in Australia, killing approximately 9,000 people a year, and late diagnosis remains the biggest obstacle to treating the disease.
Health Minister Mark Butler said screening could detect 70 per cent of lung cancers and, when caught early, more than 65 per cent of cases could be treated successfully.
The program targets Australians aged 50 to 70 with a history of smoking, using low-dose CT scans available in every state and territory. In remote areas, the partnership with Heart of Australia has so far delivered 519 mobile screenings via dedicated trucks across Northern Western Australia and the Northern Territory, with additional services to be rolled out in the remaining states over the next 10 months.
First Nations participants accounted for more than 5% of those screened, and this increase was attributed to a structural partnership with the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organization (NACCHO).
NACCHO general manager Dr. Dawn Casey PSM said these strong figures were no coincidence and proved that national health initiatives were successful when designed with community-controlled sector to ensure cultural safety.

In addition to the previous article, Jonno Duniam He said he discussed his plans with Taylor in recent weeks.
Representing Tasmania, the Commonwealth’s top state, has been a blessing and the honor of a lifetime; An unparalleled honour. While I know there will be some people who will be disappointed that I am leaving, I am very grateful to the members of the Liberal Party in Tasmania for giving me the privilege of being a Senator and for all the support they have provided.
Now is the time for my party to elect new Senate team members who will take forward the fight for Tasmania and the values the Liberal Party believes in.
I leave federal politics proud and grateful but exhausted. I wish our current Senators, and our new Senate team as a whole, nothing but the best as they strive for our state.

liberal front row Jonathan Duniam He says he will quit politics before the next election.
Sunday’s announcement was a blow for the opposition leader. Angus TaylorThe coalition faces persistently weak polls and a challenge from One Nation.
The shadow home secretary said he would leave the Senate at the end of the year:
This was an extremely difficult decision to make; Even though it’s a decision I’ve been thinking about for a long time.
I have spent the last 25 years in politics, the last 10 of which as a Tasmanian Senator, and I have given my all to those responsibilities, often at the expense of my family.
Twenty-five years is a long time in any profession, and it always comes first when you take your role seriously. It’s time for me to reverse my priorities, and I can’t do that if I’m going to stay in politics.
Frankly, I accept that I am leaving at a difficult time for the Federal Coalition.
But I firmly believe that my friends in both the Liberal Party and the National Party are on the right track.
No one in the coalition is better equipped to lead us (and Australia) to success than Angus Taylor and Matt Canavan; They are both outstanding leaders and have an unrivaled love for our country.

The body of a seven-year-old girl was recovered from Sydney’s Parramatta River after her father was also found dead in the early hours of Saturday and an investigation into their deaths continues.
Emergency services were called to Bayview Park in Concord just before 11.45am on Saturday after a passerby on another vessel spotted a man’s body in the water next to a small, drifting boat. Officers from Burwood Police Area Command boarded another boat to reach the scene, where they pulled the man from the water and began CPR. Could not be revived.
Police believe the dead man was a father in his 40s from the Westmead area who had chartered the boat earlier in the day. During the inspection of the boat, the police found that his seven-year-old daughter was missing on the ship. Expert police divers found his body hours later.
Burwood Police Area Commander Superintendent Christine McDonald described the situation as an “absolute tragedy”.
McDonald said a friend of the family called authorities at 12:30 a.m. and asked to check on the health of the father and daughter, but was unaware that police had found the man’s body about 45 minutes earlier.
The boy’s distraught mother was assisting investigators with their investigation.
A crime scene has been established and forensic officers are examining the chartered vessel. The man and girl have not yet been formally identified but police said the family was from Westmead in Sydney’s west.
McDonald, on behalf of the coroner, said police would “leave no stone unturned” as they investigate whether the incident was a tragic accident or deliberate.
There are several lines of investigation currently ongoing. But can I say from the outset that this is an absolute tragedy for the family and society on every level. We will leave no stone unturned.
Police are urging anyone who was around Bayview Park in Concord or in the water near the Parramatta River and Hen and Chicken Bay on Saturday morning to come forward immediately. Beach residents are also asked to check home CCTV footage. Anyone with information is asked to contact Burwood Police or Crime Stoppers immediately on 1800 333 000.
