Donald Trump’s former lawyer Alina Habba said she has resigned as the chief federal prosecutor in New Jersey. announced on social media.
Habba’s resignation followed district and appellate court rulings that found he unlawfully fulfilled that powerful role of enforcing federal criminal and civil law.
The Trump administration was maneuvering to keep Habba in the job after his interim appointment expired, and Habba was unable to win confirmation from the U.S. Senate.
Habba’s statement on Monday said “do not confuse compliance with surrender” and that he would serve as senior counsel for the US attorneys of the Trump administration’s attorney general, Pam Bondi.
Habba’s statement said, “Make no mistake, you can take the girl out of New Jersey, but you can’t take New Jersey out of the girl.”
