Albanese will visit Brunei and Malaysia this week

Prime minister Anthony Albanese and foreign minister Penny Wong The government will visit Brunei and Malaysia this week as it seeks to shore up Australian supplies of diesel, fertilizer and other critical goods following shortages caused by the US-Israeli war against Iran.

Albanese will first go to Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei on Tuesday to meet the sultan. Hasanal BolkiahAccording to the prime minister’s office, they will discuss “energy, food security and the flow of essential goods between our countries.”

Brunei supplies 9% of Australia’s diesel imports and 11% of Australia’s fertilizer grade urea imports, while Australia exports food and agricultural products to Brunei.

Albanese will meet the prime minister in Malaysia Enver Ibrahim, Malaysia is Australia’s third largest source of refined fuels and supplies 10% of Australia’s fertilizer-grade urea imports, while Australia supplies 95% of Malaysia’s imported natural gas for similar negotiations.

Wong will then travel separately for talks with his counterparts in Singapore.
