Stephen Flynn says Starmer’s Labour has ‘downed tools’ amid crisis

SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn has warned that the “cost of chaos” within the UK Government is causing direct harm to Scottish families and businesses.
He accused ministers of being “so caught up in their own civil war that they are completely ignoring Westminster’s never-ending cost of living crisis”. Flynn specifically highlighted Labour’s internal strife, claiming it followed calls from Scottish leader Anas Sarwar for the Prime Minister to resign following revelations about Peter Mandelson’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
The Aberdeen South MP argued Labor ministers had “dropped the tools” to focus on party divisions, leading to “economic and political paralysis”. He cited slow economic growth, the fallout from Brexit and the depreciation of sterling against the euro as evidence.
Mr Flynn said: “The cost of Labour-run chaos is rising and getting worse – Keir Starmer’s Labor Party are so caught up in their own civil war that they are completely ignoring Westminster’s never-ending cost of living crisis.”

He added: “When it comes to managing the economy, tackling Westminster’s cost-of-living crisis and even the basics of passing promised legislation, Keir Starmer’s distracted and divided Labor Party has been conspicuously out of touch with the tools.”
Flynn suggested the public were “wisely” to think that Labor would “never fight over them while they are busy fighting among themselves”. He also commented: “Another week of the Westminster scandal has come with real costs and consequences – the pound has fallen, borrowing rates have risen and even legislation has ground to a halt – people were promised ‘change’; Keir Starmer’s Labor Party has only created chaos.”
In response, Flynn underlined the SNP’s focus on “our people’s priorities” in Scotland, citing the opening of the first GP practice, frozen rail fares, five years of the Scottish child payment and the resident doctor pay deal.
He praised First Minister John Swinney, stating: “Under John Swinney, our NHS is turning a corner, with waiting times falling thanks to a relentless focus on improving our health service.”
“With Labor tearing itself apart, John Swinney’s SNP Government can always be counted on to stand by Scotland,” concluded Mr Flynn.
The UK Government has been approached for comment.
