The Minister of Communications made a statement a month before the ban started: Anika WellsHe heralded the success of the national education campaign.
Since the campaign launched three weeks ago, the eSafety website has recorded more than 290,000 page views from more than 200,000 users, Wells said. The Minister said:
We’re encouraged to see hundreds of thousands of Australians joining our educational resources to have meaningful conversations about this important change.
Now is the time for people with under-16s in their lives to start talking about what the new law means to them and talk about any concerns or concerns they may have.
Teens who expect their accounts to be deactivated starting December 10 can take steps to prepare and make sure they stay connected to the people and things they love, including backing up content and photos and exploring other ways to stay in touch.

The opposition called on the government to resolve ‘uncertainties’ regarding the social media ban on those under 16
The federal opposition is demanding the Albanian government urgently address “uncertainties” regarding the social media age limit, which will start in a month’s time.
The world’s first restrictions will begin on December 10 and will require platforms such as Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube, X and TikTok to prevent those under 16 from creating or owning accounts.
shadow communications minister Melissa McIntoshHe said many issues remain unclear, including the final list of platforms to be seized.
The government last week added message board Reddit and video streaming platform Kick to the banned list, leaving the door open to further delayed inclusions such as gaming platform Roblox.
McIntosh said:
The aim of the ban is to protect children online, but with this hasty, last-minute approach to adding new platforms, will social media companies be ready in time and what age verification mechanisms will they use? Adding new platforms to the banned list is happening hastily. Last week the Minister said ‘there will still be room for maneuver’ towards the 10 December implementation date. The government urgently needs to approve a full list of child-free platforms.
McIntosh criticized the government’s public information campaign to promote the ban as “lackluster” and said parents, schools and children had not been given enough time to prepare.
