Australia v England cricket scores, results, start time, wickets, teams, how to watch
Nathan Lyon spoke to Channel Seven’s Mel McLaughlin about being sent off on the brink of play; It was a tough interview on both counts, and Lyon’s bluntness made it awkward at times.
– McLaughlin: “How was the meeting with chief election officer George Bailey?”
Lyon: “Short”.
– McLaughlin: “Do you like this?”
Lyon: ”Yes it’s absolutely disgusting but I can’t do anything about it. “Hopefully I can play my part in getting the players ready and do whatever I can to make sure we get the right result here.”

Lyon learned of his demotion about 90 minutes before the game and after surveying the pitch realized he could do some damage to the Gabba goal, where he has performed well throughout his career.
When McLaughlin asked how it felt to be left out twice in three Tests and barely bowled in Perth, Lyon gave a bemused ‘how do you think it feels’ look before downplaying a communication issue with the Australian selectors.
“There’s always communication. I don’t feel like sitting down with coach and George right now, so it’s going to happen.”
“I want the first player to miss his first match and I won’t be the last. I’m obviously quite demoralized because I know the role I can play in Australian cricket, especially in a venue like this. I’m extremely disappointed, but as I said, I’ll do whatever I have to do to make sure these guys get back on their feet.”
