Amanda Peet calls out Hollywood as ‘smoke and mirrors’ with ‘desperation galore’

Amanda Peet is pulling back the old curtain on life in the spotlight.
The 54-year-old actor said Hollywood was nothing but “smoke and mirrors”.
“When asked about the “biggest misconception” in Hollywood that stars live the “perfect life,” Peet told Fox News Digital: “It’s ridiculous. It’s smoke and mirrors. No.” there There. So you name the aphorism, it applies to us. This desperation is at its peak. ‘What are they doing there? Why don’t I have this? Why don’t I look like that?’ That’s the bad part.”
He continued, “It’s so hard to do that in Hollywood — I’m just going to look vulgar. It’s competitive and it’s hard to get out of this really competitive mentality where the piece of cheese on the island is so small and there are so many people going after it.”

The “Something’s Gotta Give” actor added that growing old in the youth-obsessed industry isn’t easy either.
“I’m older, so I have a lot more peace about it, but it’s really hard to find, and if you’re lucky enough to have one, it’s hard not to want to chase your own excitement and instead think: ‘When my alarm goes off in the morning, what do I really want to do? What do I want to do? Is this what I really want to do? Is this really helpful or helpful to anyone?'”

Peet stars in the second season of Apple TV’s “Your Friends & Neighbors,” which will air with a new episode every week from Friday, April 3 until June 5.

He said fans can expect “a lot more” from the second season.
“There’s also the issue of Coop having this secret life,” Peet said of the character Jon Hamm, who plays her ex-husband on the series.
“It’s smoke and mirrors. It’s not there. So you name the aphorism, it applies to us. There’s a lot of desperation. ‘What are they doing there? Why don’t I have it? Why don’t I look like that?’ That’s the bad part.”
“And I think a lot of people this season are starting to get a hint that something is going on with Coop,” he continued. “And it becomes more and more dangerous for him to continue doing what he’s doing, which is incredibly exciting. And then [her character] Mel and Coop are still in this situation, right? They’re mad at each other, but they still look like they want to fuck each other. So yeah, it’s a really big hot mess.”

Peet said she also appreciated a storyline in which her character was dealing with menopause, which she said was cathartic for her.

“It was so refreshing to put my own menopausal frustrations and anger into an appropriate situation, that is, to act as a character rather than my own life,” Peet said.
The actress has also been open about her breast cancer diagnosis, which she announced earlier this month.

He told Fox News Digital that when he first heard the news, his thoughts were filled with “dread.”
“My children and terror,” he admitted.

Peet said he decided not to tell his dying mother “because she hadn’t been well for so long that I didn’t want to scare her if she had been able to understand.”
“So it wasn’t a difficult decision, just a little bit difficult in a more global sense because I’ve been so close to him my whole life.”
