Navarro rips Apple for not moving production out of China fast enough

White House Trade Advisor Peter Navarro scolded Apple CEO Tim Cook on Monday, the company’s response to the pressure from the Trump administration to make more products other than China.

“Tim Cook, who returned to the first Trump era, asked for more time to get his factories from China,” Navarro said in an interview with CNBC on “Squawk on the street”. He said. “I mean, the longest pink series in Silicon Valley.”

CNBC reached Apple to comment on Navarro’s criticism.

President Donald Trump has increased the demands of Apple to carry the iconic iPhone to the United States from abroad. Apple’s flagship phone is primarily produced in China, but the company gradually increased production in India to avoid the higher cost of Trump’s tariffs.

In May, Trump warned that Apple would have to pay a 25% or more tariff for iPhones outside the United States, and Trump said to Cook, “I don’t want you to build in India.”

Analysts and supply chain experts argued that Apple would be impossible to completely carry iPhone production to the United States with some estimates, and that an US iPhone could cost $ 3,500.

Navarro said Cook’s production did not change the production quickly from China.

“All these new advanced production techniques and the way of acting with AI and things like this, Tim Cook’s iPhones in other parts of the world and in this country does not take it for me.” He said.

Apple, which is currently making very few products in the US in the first period of Trump, has expanded its commitment to assembled a $ 3,000 Mac Pro in Texas.
