Drivers are warned about the key Highway Code A rule associated with the number 100. And there are potential criminal consequences for those who ignore it.
As unpredictable weather conditions continue to catch out drivers in the UK, Rule 226 says drivers must use the correct lights when visibility drops. Breaking the rules isn’t just dangerous; It can even land you in jail.
He explains: “You MUST USE headlights when visibility is severely reduced, usually when you cannot see more than 100 meters (328 feet) away. You can also use front or rear fog lights, but you MUST turn them OFF once visibility improves.”
Drivers are also reminded of Rule 236 and to use fog lights only when visibility is very poor. Using them at the wrong time can dazzle other road users and make driving more dangerous.
It warns: “You should NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is severely reduced, as they will dazzle other road users and may obscure your brake lights. Once visibility has improved, you should switch them OFF.”
These rules apply to all drivers. GOV.UK He emphasizes that “many of the rules in the law are legal requirements and if you fail to comply with these rules you will be committing a criminal offence.”
“You can be fined, have penalty points on your license or be banned from driving. In the most serious cases, you can be sent to prison.
“Such rules are identified by the use of the words ‘MUST/MUST NOT’. The rule also contains an abbreviated reference to the legislation creating the offence.”
