Australia’s EU trade deal is rubbish — but not for why you think

We’ve been here before and unfortunately we’ll be here again in the future: A government exaggerates the benefits of a preferential trade agreement.
As usual, big numbers are being thrown around about Australia’s trade deal with the European Union: “$30 trillion economy… $869.3 billion total investment stock… 27 European countries… 450 million consumers,” according to Anthony Albanese and Labor right-wing leader Don Farrell.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade avoids transparency and always evaluates the trade agreements it negotiates with a large number of people. says deal could “increase Australia’s real GDP by up to $7.8”
