Baby car seat recall alert issued amid fears over ‘risk of injuries’ to children

A critical product recall has been issued for the Maxi-Cosi baby car seat base, with the brand warning of a serious “risk of injury” to children due to faulty safety display.

Consumers are asked to immediately stop using the affected product.

The recall, detailed on the Office of Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) website, targets all Family Fix Slide Pro Base seats. The main problem is a faulty indicator designed to confirm correct installation, which can cause the car seat to separate from its base.

“The product poses a risk of injury because the indicator indicating whether the car seat is installed correctly may illuminate ‘green’ even when the car seat is not fully attached to the base,” the OPSS recall information states.

“As a result, the user may believe that the seat is fastened when it is not. This may cause the seat to move or separate, resulting in injury to the passenger.”

The product was assessed not to comply with the General Product Safety Regulations 2005. Maxi-Cosi is recalling units manufactured in China between September 6 last year and March 24, 2026.

Maxi-Cosi said in a statement on its website: “Your child’s safety guides every decision we make at Maxi-Cosi, and in keeping with our deep commitment to you and your family, we want to notify you of the voluntary recall affecting your product.”

The company explained that a “possible misuse scenario” involving the visual indicator was identified during end-user testing.

Customers are advised to check their products by entering the model reference and production date on the Maxi-Cosi website. The reference number must be 10 digits long and the production date must be on the white label at the bottom of the base.
