Baby dies in ‘devastating incident’ as woman, 25, arrested | UK | News

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect following the death of a baby in south Manchester.

Emergency services were dispatched to Platt Lane in Fallowfield on the morning of Thursday, May 7, and an air ambulance landed nearby.

Police confirmed he was alerted to the welfare concern and taken to hospital where a girl later tragically lost her life.

An eyewitness at the scene told the Manchester Evening News he watched a paramedic rush out of the property carrying a baby. “It was terrible,” he said. “It’s very scary.” Manchester Evening News.

A 25-year-old woman has since been arrested and remains in police custody. A cordon will remain on the residential street while officers continue their investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Wrench, of Greater Manchester, said: “This is a devastating incident and news of the police investigation will cause shock to the local community.

“Please be assured that we are keeping an open mind as we pursue the various lines of investigation, working closely with our partners to understand the full circumstances surrounding how this death occurred.

“We are doing everything possible to respond to this baby and his family.
