Baby girl is among four killed in crash in Derby: Driver, 33, is arrested

A girl was among the four people killed in a traffic accident on the main street in Derby.

Emergency services attended the scene after receiving reports that a red Hyundai had crashed into trees after leaving the A516 highway at around 23:00 on Saturday.

It was announced that two women, aged 18 and 30, and a 36-year-old man died. The baby girl, who was taken to the hospital, died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

All four of the victims were passengers in the vehicle. Families were notified of their deaths.

The 33-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

In addition, the person who was taken to the hospital was treated for serious injuries.

Police said all those involved were from Leeds in West Yorkshire.

The road between the A50 Toyota Island and the A516, where the crash occurred last night, was closed for several hours while officers examined the scene. It has since reopened.

The crash happened between the A50 Toyota Island and the A516 in Derbyshire at around 11pm on Saturday. While the driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, four passengers, including a baby girl, died.

Derbyshire Police have appealed for anyone with information about the crash, including dashcam footage, to come forward.

The union spokesman said: ‘Four people died and 1 person was injured in the accident that occurred on the A38 in Derby.

‘Emergency services were called to the scene of the road between the A50 Toyota Island and the A516 at around 23:00 on Saturday, July 25.

‘Officers responded to reports that a red Hyundai car with five people inside had left the carriageway and crashed into trees.

Two women, aged 18 and 30, and a 36-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene.

‘The girl was taken to hospital and sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

‘There were four passengers in the vehicle. The 33-year-old driver was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries and remained there today.

‘He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. All those involved are from Leeds in West Yorkshire.

‘The road was closed for a few hours while emergency services dealt with the incident but later reopened.

‘The relatives of those involved in this incident have been informed and are being supported by specialist police. Our thoughts are with them at this most troubling time.

‘We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward. We would also like to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage that captured the incident.
