Baby killed, mother and toddler seriously injured, in Perth rideshare crash
A seven-month-old baby died after a rideshare crashed into a tree in Perth’s south-eastern suburbs early on Saturday morning.
The car was traveling on Nicholson Road in Lynwood at around 3.40am when the crash occurred and also seriously injured a three-year-old child who was taken to Perth Children’s Hospital.
Their 32-year-old mother and their seven-month-old baby were also taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital with serious injuries. The baby died in the hospital.
The 35-year-old driver was slightly injured in the accident.
In the security camera footage of the incident, it is seen that the vehicle stopped after hitting the tree and hit the bus stop first.
Witness Chadni Sard told 9News Perth She heard a loud noise and her husband ran out to see what was happening.
“His mother was screaming, ‘My baby’s not breathing, my baby’s not breathing, please help us,'” she said.
Other witnesses tried to help the family and were performing CPR on the baby to save them.
Police are now investigating the incident, including whether the children were secured in booster seats; This is not a legal requirement for taxis or rideshares in Western Australia.
