West Bengal election 2026: BJP trying to add illegal voters from outside in Bengal electoral rolls: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday (March 31, 2026) alleged that the BJP is trying to include illegal voters from Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in the state’s electoral rolls to tilt the poll result in favor of the saffron party.

Addressing an election rally in Paschim Medunipur’s Chandrakona, Mr. Banerjee reiterated her demand before the meeting to ignore who the TMC candidates are in the State Assembly segments and see herself as a candidate in all 294 seats.

“Abhishek informed me [Banerjee] “Yesterday, he said, he had to rush to the EC office in Kolkata from the middle of his campaign schedule after receiving information that nearly 30,000 forms had been sent in a single day to include new voters.”

“BJP is trying to include illegal voters from Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in the electoral rolls in Bengal. They are planning to transport out-of-station voters through railways, like they did in Bihar,” he alleged.

Claiming that the saffron party has “no respect” for Bengal and its people, the Chief Minister accused the BJP of colluding with the Election Commission and deleting the names of women and minorities from the state’s electoral rolls in the guise of SIR application.

“BJP and AK are usurping people’s civil, constitutional and democratic rights. We will fight them every inch of the way,” Ms. Banerjee said.

Arguing that Bengalis will “ban consumption of non-veg food” if the BJP comes to power in the state, the CM said the TMC will thwart the Centre’s attempts to implement NRC through a backdoor in the state and plans to send targeted citizens to detention camps.
