Assam CM Himanta reviews final preparations for Boragaon Martyrs’ Column ahead of Swahid Divas

It may be noted that the foundation stone of Swahid Smarak Khetra, laid in 2019, was built on a vast land covering more than 98 bighas in memory of the martyrs of the Assam Agitation. The project includes facilities such as water bodies, auditorium, prayer hall, cycle track and facilities for sound and light show which will highlight different aspects of the Assam Agitation and history of Assam.
During his visit, the Prime Minister inspected various components of the monument and noted that last-minute touches were being made to the structure. Accompanied by senior government officials, Sarma assessed the ongoing works and issued specific instructions to ensure timely completion of all tasks before the inauguration.
The Prime Minister also suggested various measures to improve the aesthetic, structural and commemorative aspects of the Martyrs’ Pillar, stating that the site should remain a lasting symbol of Assam’s collective gratitude to the martyrs and a space where future generations can reflect on their sacrifices. Sarma reiterated the State government’s commitment to preserve the memory of the Assam Movement martyrs and ensure that their contribution remains a source of inspiration for the people of Assam.
The Martyrs’ Pillar in Boragaon will be officially inaugurated on December 10 to coincide with Swahid Divas, a day dedicated to commemorating and honoring the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs.
