Bangladesh: 4 Killed In Gopalganj As NCP Rally Triggers Violent Clashes With Awami League supporters; Curfew Imposed | World News

According to The Daily Star, at least four people were killed and injured in violent clashes in Gopalganj on Wednesday between law enforcementary staff and Awami League (AL) supporters in Gopalganj.

Violence began after a pre -planned NCP rally at the Poura Park in Gopalganj town, after a NCP rally opposed by Al supporters despite the last ban against the Awami League against all political activities of the League.

According to Daily Star, hundreds of Al activists blocked the Gopalganj-Tekerhat road in the Ulpur region early on Wednesday with trees. The protesters also opened fire on a government vehicle and destroyed the NCP rally place before the storm.

The clashes intensified after NCP leaders left the rally and attacked by Al supporters near Chowrangi. In the report, the daily stars, at least four people were killed and others were injured as they spread to different parts of the region.

On the other hand, the government imposed a curfew on Wednesday from 20:00 to Thursday to 18:00 to control the situation. Authorities also postponed the ongoing HSC, Purchase and HSC exams in Gopalganj and notifications by the relevant education boards around 22:30.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the police had opened fire on demonstrators in some regions. A grocery store in Chowrangi said he saw two people collapsing because the security forces fired to distribute the crowd. Daily Star was reported to be one of the victims on the way to his shop when he was hit in Dipto’s belly.

Speaking at a press conference in Khulna, Nahid Islam, Nahid Islam, said, “After finishing our rally in Gopalganj, we were going to Madaripur when the Awami League’s armed goons attacked our highway.” He said. Despite the attack, the party plans to continue the rally in Faridpur today, Daily Star quoted him.

Before the rally began, 200-300 armed individuals suppressed the space, tears the posters and detonated the raw bombs and forced the police officers to retreat temporarily. Nahid Islamic and member secretary Akhtar Hossin, including NCP leaders later arrived and helped the attackers back with police support.

The Chief Consultant’s press wing strongly condemned the attack on the NCP members, described it as “completely unavailable” and guaranteed that those responsible would be punished. According to Daily Star, other political parties, including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-E-Islami, condemned violence.
