Tarique Rahman is the son of former Prime Minister late Khaleda Zia. He led the BNP to a landslide victory in the general elections. It is noteworthy that he achieved this victory after returning from 17 years of exile.

When and where is the oath ceremony?

BNP MP Rashiduzzaman Millat told news agency ANI that the oath-taking ceremony will be held at 9.30 am on Tuesday and the ministerial oath-taking will be held at 4 pm.

The elected BNP MP said, “The oath-taking ceremony for members of parliament will be held at 9:30 am at the bhawan of our parliament. There will be another session for ministerial oath-taking at 4:00 pm. Prime Minister Modi and the Prime Minister of Pakistan will not come.”

However, according to Prothom Alo, uncertainty remains as to whether elected MPs will take a second oath as members of the proposed constitutional reform council.

According to Prothom Alo, there are questions about whether a constitutional reform council will be immediately formed to implement the proposals in the July National Charter.

Multiple sources from the BNP told Prothom Alo that the party believes it is appropriate to abide by the current constitution, which only provides for MPs to be sworn in and makes no mention of a constitutional reform council or similar body.

They argued that such an oath could only occur if it was included in the constitution. The BNP also questioned the legal basis of the July National Charter (Constitutional Reform) Implementation Decision from the beginning.

Representation of India at Tarique Rahman’s swearing-in ceremony

According to ANI, the Ministry of External Affairs said that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will represent India at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected government of Bangladesh.

The Speaker’s participation in this landmark event in Bangladesh underlines the deep and enduring friendship between the people of both countries and reaffirms India’s steadfast commitment to the democratic values that bind the two countries together, the MEA statement said.
