Banks in Karnataka disbursed ₹2,47,754 crore towards agriculture sector in Q4, exceeded target by ₹25,551 crore

Bhavendra Kumar, managing director of Canara Bank, in Bengaluru on Tuesday (May 26), informed that banks in Karnataka had disbursed ₹2,47,754 crore to the agriculture sector in the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2026, against the target of ₹2,22,203 crore.

Speaking at the 175th State Level Bankers Committee meeting held at Vidhana Soudha, he said banks achieved 111% of their allotted target in the fourth quarter. They achieved a growth of 106% for the MSME sector and the total priority sector grew by 108%. Mr. Kumar encouraged banks to continue their good performance in FY27.

State Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, who chaired the meeting, reviewed the state’s bank and district-wise performance under sub-sectors such as Total Credit, Total Deposits, Priority Sector and Target Achievements.

He also advised bankers and government departments to work together for smooth and seamless integration of development activities for better implementation. He also reviewed all development plans/government-supported programs and advised banks to complete all pending applications. Ms. Rajneesh also instructed the bankers to join NRLM (National Rural Livelihood Mission) Self Help Group Business Correspondent (BC) Sakhis as BC representatives in all gram panchayat locations.

Kaya Tripathi, regional director of the Reserve Bank of India, emphasized on the preparation of a roadmap for Financial Inclusion 2025-30. He emphasized the importance of the integrated portal in data updating.

NABARD managing director Surendra Babu said banks should work towards the set target and achieve the same in advance.

Other participants included Uma Mahadevan, additional chief secretary and development commissioner, Government of Karnataka, Shambhu Lal, managing director of Canara Bank, Bhaskara Chakravarthy M., managing director of Canara Bank and Shreenath Joshi, managing director of Canara Bank.
