A psychologist who has reviewed more than 500 books shares 10 essential tips for moving forward, finding happiness, and better understanding your emotions. Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behavior in humans and animals; Psychologists help people resolve mental, emotional and behavioral difficulties through therapy.
Millie Hardie, a registered psychologist with the Australian Psychologists Board and AHPRA, regularly shares advice on her TikTok page under the handle @pocket.psychologist to make her practice more accessible to others.
He frequently posts videos that distill content that took a decade to learn into quick, digestible content, and it’s helped thousands of people around the world.
Millie posted a video explaining that she’s read over 500 psychology books and wanted to share her top 10 tips for practices she knows are effective.
He said: “I’m a psychologist and I’ve read over 500 psychology books. Give me 60 seconds and I’ll tell you what really works.”
The first tip from the pro emphasized the importance of “noticing your thoughts,” but also emphasized that you don’t actually have to believe them.
The second tip helps reduce the power of emotions over you. Millie said: “Number two, name your feelings, they lose their power when they are seen.”
He continued: “Third, act according to your values, not your mood. Fourth, kindness towards yourself changes your biology.
“Number five, boundaries teach people how to treat you. Number six, you don’t need more motivation, action creates it.”
The expert’s seventh tip highlighted how grounding your body helps calm your mind. In a recent video, Millie revealed some unconventional psychology techniques that can help relieve anxiety and panic, like sucking on a sour dessert or grasping an ice cube.
Millie added: “Number eight, my favourite, the story you tell yourself is your reality. Number nine, understanding your brain is your greatest superpower and the beginning of healing.”
“Number ten, acceptance is not giving up, but moving forward. After 500 books, this is the truth, simple, human, repeatable and useful.”
