NBA Finals: New York Knicks beat San Antonio Spurs to win championship

With the Knicks trailing by 10 points with less than eight minutes remaining, Brunson scored 10 unanswered points to tie the game at 83-83.
He scored with just over a minute left to give the Knicks a 90-88 lead, and free throws from Josh Hart and OG Anunoby increased the lead to four points.
Although Victor Wembanyana missed the three-pointer for Spurs, Stephon Castle’s dunk made the score 92-90 with 16 seconds left in the match.
Free throws from Mikal Bridges and Anunoby after Dylan Harper missed two attempts for the Spurs gave the Knicks an unforgettable victory.
Brunson’s teammates from Villanova University, Bridges and Hart, scored 27 points in total, while Bridges had 14 points and Hart had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
For Spurs, Harper scored 25 points off the bench, while Wembanyama recorded 19 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks.
The Spurs became the first team in five finals games to lead by at least 10 points in the first quarter.
“We weren’t ready. I wasn’t ready to win a ring; that’s obvious,” Wembanyana said.
“We don’t lack talent or skill, but we make a lot of mistakes. I make a lot of mistakes.”
While Wembanyana, the NBA’s defensive player of the year, conceded a turnover and foul to Brunson in the last 10 seconds of the second game, the Knicks won 105-104, but his 32 points helped the Spurs win the third game 115-111.
“This is the biggest lesson, the biggest learning moment of my life,” he said.
“It’s painful, but I don’t run away from it. I use it to fuel me. I’m not happy about not winning.
“There’s no better experience than what we just had as a team.”
