Banned gym member faces attempted murder charge in Planet Fitness stabbing

A Philadelphia man faces attempted murder charges after authorities say he stabbed a gym employee multiple times at Planet Fitness, where he had previously been banned, leaving the victim fighting for her life.
Davier Massey, 28, was arrested shortly after Thursday’s attack at the gym in the Wyncote section of Cheltenham County, the local police department said.
Police said officers responded to a report of a stabbing at Planet Fitness around 12:30 a.m. and found a male employee with multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to the trauma center with life-threatening injuries. No update on his current condition was immediately provided.
Investigators said the attack followed an argument between the employee and Massey, who had previously been banned from the gym.

“I can’t believe it. I feel like I’m in a dream right now,” said one gymgoer. FOX29 Philadelphia.
Another told the station that “all the staff are nice” and “refreshing.”
“It’s kind of shocking that something happened here,” he said.

According to police, Massey was taken into custody a short distance from the scene and now faces a long list of charges, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, terroristic threats and possession of an instrument of crime.

Bail was denied and Massey was held in the Montgomery County Jail pending further court proceedings, authorities said.

Police did not disclose a motive for the attack or additional details about what triggered the gym shooting.
