Barangaroo metro station to stay open amid heightened security
“It’s important to plan ahead, consider your options and be aware that the city and our transport hubs operate differently on New Year’s Eve. Some stations will close and access to services will gradually change as roads close and viewpoints reach capacity,” he said.

Murray said keeping Barangaroo station open longer provided another direct link for people to get to and from the harbourfront, although some of its use overnight could be changed based on police advice on crowds.
“From 15:00 in the afternoon, hundreds of extra metro services will be provided every four minutes,” he said.
Although Barangaroo station will remain open longer, Murray said transport options directly to Circular Quay would be limited as crowds fill key viewpoints in the afternoons.
From noon, buses will no longer run to Circular Quay and will move to Martin Place, while light rail services will terminate at the Town Hall from 2pm.

Trains will not stop at Circular Quay station from 3pm and event attendees heading to the harbor front will need to get transport to nearby Wynyard, St James, Martin Place, Town Hall or Gadigal stations and continue on foot.
Some ferry piers in the port started to close from 10am and all ferries will stop around 5.30pm. Limited services will begin after fireworks at midnight.
Roads in the northern end of the CBD, including the Cahill Expressway, were closed from 4am. Sydney Harbor Bridge will be closed from 11pm to 1.30am, as will the city-bound lanes of Anzac Bridge, the city-bound M4 and M8 tunnels and the Iron Cove Link to Anzac Bridge.
“Widespread parking restrictions will apply, so it’s definitely best to leave the car at home,” Murray said.
