Barry M is on the brink of collapse: Make-up brand famed for its 90s nail varnishes and bold colours is set to appoint administrators

Make-up brand Barry M, which dominated make-up supplies with its cracked nail polishes and bold color palette in the 90s, is on the verge of collapse.
The brand has been a staple on the affordable high street since its founding in 1982 and was the inventor of the world’s first white eyeliner.
But court documents filed on January 29 show the company intends to appoint administrators, according to The Sun.
The move suggests the brand is seeking protection from creditors as it tries to restructure its finances.

Giving notice of the intention to appoint an administrator gives Barry M some time to weigh up his options before creditors take action.
The company has faced obstacles shared by other brands in the industry, including rising costs and a challenging retail environment.
It is currently unclear how many people’s jobs may be at risk if the process progresses.
A potential collapse is a worrying prospect for the affordable beauty market, as its products are widely sold in beauty retailers and supermarkets such as Superdrug, Boots and Sainsbury’s.
Barry M is a family-run, animal-free cosmetics brand founded by Barry Mero in Mill Hill East, London, in 1982.
