Baseball fan visits all 30 MLB stadiums in 30 days for drowning prevention

A lifelong baseball fan, he is living every fan’s dream but unfortunately under tragic circumstances.

Jonathan St. 12 years after losing her 21-month-old son, Jasper, to drowning, Clair is traveling to each of the 30 MLB stadiums over several days to spread awareness about water safety.

St. While Clair’s first child, Jasper, was in the care of a trusted babysitter, he was taken to a house with a pool without a gate and left unattended for only a few minutes. Doctors made every effort to save him for about a week, but unfortunately, Jasper lost the battle.

“He hadn’t learned to swim and hadn’t been to any swimming lessons yet. So we were very, very surprised. How come we didn’t know the water was so dangerous, or how come we couldn’t get the kids into swimming lessons sooner?” St. Clair told Fox News Digital in a recent interview.

The interview took place before the sixth game of his trip, a night game in Toronto after flying from Denver to watch the Colorado Rockies.

“All of this happened, and we learned so much from the community at large. Since then, we’ve met not only a family like ours, but hundreds of others who have been there. And really, this campaign that I’m doing right now includes all of those people. I’m working with organizations like ours in all 30 cities. The idea is to raise awareness in the water safety and drowning prevention community that this isn’t something that can just happen. It’s something that can happen to someone else.”

Nothing can solve this unimaginable burden, but long before embarking on this journey was even considered, meeting families who shared similar unfortunate experiences provided a level of comfort.

St. “Without this family group, I would not have taken a step forward 12 years ago,” Clair said.

St. “It’s fun walking around town with a life jacket on because not everyone knows what to ask, then someone does and the conversation starts. It’s actually been amazing,” Clair said.

What about the hat?

“I feel like I’ve been very in touch with every team I’ve been on because I’m not coming in as a particular fan. I’m coming in for a purpose and it’s been very well received. It’s been a lot of fun.”

Just a week into his trip, one of the fathers took his first class seat to St. Louis. He offered to Clair, and another gave him an extra ticket to watch behind-the-back hitting practice.

“Well, I’m a big baseball fan. I grew up loving baseball. I played baseball. I thought the thing about this sport in particular is that it starts with very young kids, usually kids as young as three years old, starting in Little League. My son couldn’t play that game. I know he definitely would,” St. Louis said. Clair.

“I always wanted to do all 30 baseball stadiums, but I didn’t have the idea to do them all in 30 days. And of course, we had a lot of drownings in the United States last year. One thing I thought about is, I had this ridiculous idea: Maybe if I do it. 30 ball fields in 30 days“We’ll get some recognition and get people talking about drowning prevention.”

After catching the Blue Jays’ loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at Rogers Center, St. Clair flew to Detroit on Wednesday morning and traveled to Cleveland for the Guardians’ game against the Minnesota Twins. He’s heading back to Detroit to catch the Tigers’ matchup with the Kansas City Royals.

The map had been created – and yes, St. Clair is terrified of rains, canceled flights, and just about anything else that has led her astray from 17 flights, six rides, four trains, one boat, and one bike path (she was delighted when she remembered on her rainy day in Canada that the Rogers Center had a retractable roof).

But he likes to think the baseball gods and his loved ones are on his side.

St. “Even though the whole campaign that I did was only 30 days, the bigger goal is beyond 30 days, right? What did we get out there? What information did we get there? How much real reach did we get? I really hope that reach is big,” St. Clair said. Clair.

“I turned on my feed this morning and five people drowned in a river in Ohio, and that’s not what I want to see. I want to wake up in the morning — I know we’re never going to get to zero — but the goal is to make people aware that if they’re in these rivers and things like that, they should wear a life jacket. So we’re working on it step by step, and that’s it. Thirty days; it’s quite a long accomplishment.”

“I was talking to my wife on the phone a few hours ago and she asked me, ‘How are you holding up?’ he said. I said, ‘I’m pretty tired today.’ ‘I’ve got three hours on two flights.’ But that’s okay. There are a lot of people behind me and it’s not just me. I’m not doing this alone. “I have hundreds of people behind me who help coordinate, at all stops everywhere, and they make my experience at each stop a real experience, so to speak, and not just a layover flight.”
