Battle to save children screaming for help after Lisbon tram crash | World | News
The desperate rescue task continues today to save the victims, including children stuck in the wreckage of a tram out of the rail.
Lisbon Gloria was heard from the funicular roads and hit a building on Wednesday. The death fee is believed to include foreign tourists who are at least 18 injured and more stuck in the wreckage.
A scared witness shouted: after the disaster incident in Portugal, “There are children under the tram”, which saw one of the cables through the route of the railway and sent the tram over a steep hill before colliding with the building. As the authorities update the number of wounded and the seriousness of their injuries, Portuguese emergency services continue to lead the rescue operation today. It was confirmed that at least five people rescued last night were in serious conditions in the hospital.

A spectator said: “One of the victims I saw was cut everywhere and was covered with blood. Many people looked unconscious.”
Teresa D’Avó, another audience, told the Portuguese TV channel SIC: “(Tram) hit the building with a brutal force and torn like a cardboard box.”
Among those who died are approved by the Portuguese National Institute of Medical Emergency Situations, as well as tourists. However, their nationalities are not explained.
The tram -like funicular, which is a popular attraction for a million tourists that Lisbon receives every year, carries people up and down in the Portuguese capital.

In response to the deadly incident, the Lisbon government declared a national mourning day planned on Thursday. The Lisbon Municipal Assembly had already announced the three -day municipal mourning.
A statement approved by the Council of Ministers read the following: “On September 3, 2025, a tragic accident containing Ascensor Da Glória in the Municipality of Lisbon caused irreparable loss of human lives that mourned their families and left shock.
“The government decided to declare national mourning one day as an expression of the condolences and solidarity of the Portuguese people. Therefore: National mourning was declared on 4 September 2025.”
